The descendants of Joseph Carline and of William Fox both of Starkholmes in Matlock

It's hard to have a tree in the heart of the Peaks, without it touching your heart. You can see an aerial view of Matlock looked at the start of the industrial revolution. Matlock is famous for youth hostelling, the Andrews pages, the spa. Our link is Joseph Carline, who died in 1856. It was a turbulent time in the family. This does not expain why his will turned up 130 years later, and why the one proved at Lichfield is not the same at all! Many relatives went to towns with more industry, mostly Manchester but also Bollington, Gotham and Atherton. This is a small tree held together by a strong name, the custom of copyhold and its ensuing very good wills, and people for whom the land was important, and still has meaning.
