Occupation. Parson Woodforde Society Journal 1980 p39. Castle Cary Visitor 1914 quoted from contemporary paper: Some time in Oct 1772. Farmer William Speed left home with the door only on the latch when all the family were out; thieves broke in and robbed him of 70. Thomas Burge Sr and Jr were found to be guilty. Money was found in their house, and more buried in the field. Went to Taunton and Ilchester gaols (and later Sugarloaf Mountain Maryland - transportation). Speed kept robbery secret till 16 Oct 1772.


William married Rebecca HOSKINS on 9 Aug 1758 in All Saints Dorchester DOR. (Rebecca HOSKINS was born about 1734 in DOR and was buried on 26 Jun 1782 in Ansford SOM.)
