Was Morton's body newly washed ashore, in which case how did they know on 17 June that he had drowned, had they drowned in docks or the Gwendraeth river, and for some reason there was a delay for Griffith's body to get back to St Ishmael. Lighters wouldn't normally operate at sea, and body unlikely to be recovered anyway. Was it in an industrial accident or bad weather (June - could check historic records). Not sure. And who was Griffith! My guess born about 1725. Must be a nephew of Jenkin and Evan, as cannot be a son of theirs - see wills - or could conceivably be a grandson of Evan and so son of John who died 1763. Very nice to have confirmation that the apparently landbased St Ishmael Mortons did indeed take to the sea, lending truth to the notion of Evan's son David making his way round Gower to Oystermouth by 1730) Registers up to 1761. Not many BAPTISMS in the parish, were they nonconformist or had children baptised (but not buried) elsewhere?
Evan married Mary MORTON, daughter of Griffith MORTON and Unknown.
