The descendants of the Moses family of Netherton, the Gibson family of Hexhamshire, the Charlton family by the Tyne

This was an inspiring roller-coaster, researching above the Pennines and diving down into villages to collect notes on our Northcountry roots. We knew that Annie Gibson turned up in the Lakes aged 14 with a couple of riddles 'my father was a butler and he was a farmer in Northumberland'. Luckily the 1861 census let us turn the story round. My youngest dead ancestor was a putter not a butler. He was also not the Northumberland farmer, but his father was indeed a farm bailiff. Wonderful memorial inscriptions survive from Morland as do some delicate and lovely hints of stories. With feet planted on both sides of the Pennines, and the Tyne, this is the most surprising part of my family, covering Cumberland, Northumberland, and Westmorland
